Ran is a digital born hive mind from Lozheon, who occupies several physical bodies as well as having a digitally addressable form.
Ran was born in 10936 ST with the assigned mental age of 24.
In the spirit of the local community, Ran uses their physical bodies to form connections with other physical inhabitants, experience relationships and contribute to the district socially. Their digital forms are more concerned with analytics and network graphs of interpersonal connections, with a particular interest in psychological effects of corporeal—non-corporeal relationships.
Ran is digital born, but embraces all forms of life and does not discriminate against human-born intelligence. They are an outspoken critic of other digital born people in the community who deem themselves superior to humans.
In 10940 ST, one of Ran's bodies was murdered during a meeting in Lozheon park. The murderer, Kooni, was a radical anti-consciousness extraction activist. After the trial and Kooni's subsequent ban from many districts in and around Iívenotica, Ran received an offer from the district Ínsærheiíveon, but decided not to reconstruct the body that was murdered. They continue living with two physical bodies. These events are the main plot of the short story Death of the Hive Mind.
